INSTRUCTIONS: For Credit File Repair
Included with this version of the E-Z Credit Kit are several forms
for editing your credit file. There are a few basic steps that you can
follow (sometimes over and over) to have anything removed, true or untrue,
from your credit report. With these forms you can seriously drive the
credit bureaus crazy! Here is why these forms work.
Your ace in the hole is the Fair Credit Reporting Act. This act
enables you to dispute anything on your credit report. The bureau must
investigate every dispute. The catch is that they only have thirty days
to investigate the disputed information in your file. After thirty
days, by law, they must remove the information. Very few disputes are
ever investigated because of the time and man power involved with the
process. Besides, even if they did verify a dispute you can still attach
a statement to your credit file explaining the problem. This statement
will become part of your credit file read by all future lending
institutions you apply to.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Use the proper form to get a free copy of your credit report (if
possible) from each of the major credit bureaus.
2. When you receive your reports start a manila folder on each credit
bureau.
3. Read your credit report and dispute anything negative with the
proper form. The forms are self explanatory as to what they are
used for.
4. Always send copies of the original letters. Keep the originals in
their corresponding manila folder for each bureau.
5. Be sure to send any backup documents that support your arguments.
i.e. letters of reference from the creditors canceled checks or
previous documents that you may have sent. (copies only!)
6. After 30 days use the follow up forms to put more pressure on
them. If it drags on long enough then don't hesitate to use the
final follow up forms included. Be sure to send these registered
or certified mail. They definitely have a bigger impact when they
are received this way.
7. If the credit bureau continues to ignore your letters then it may
be time to cause them some real trouble. Here is the address to
the Federal Trade Commission:
Practices Bureau of Consumer Protection
Federal Trade Commission room 500 IND
6th Pennsylvania Ave. Northwest
Washington, DC 20580
Phone: (202) 724-1182
** Remember, if necessary set your printer to it's best print font when
printing out the dispute forms. It gives them a much more professional
appearance.
HINT: The forms included with this version of the program work
for almost any credit repair situation. The GENERAL
DISPUTE form can be used for a wide range of entries to be
disputed. (i.e. Inquiries, accounts, collections, etc...)
However, when it comes to catering to the distinct needs
of a persons credit repair, a standardized form will not
always do.
If this occurs to you simply use the basic structure of
the form that fits the situation best and change it to
match your needs. This can be very easily done on any
text editor or word processor. Just retype the form
so that it states the specific action you are needing at
the time. Print it out and mail it in.
Also available free from the government is a very helpful resource
book. It's called The Consumer Resource Book #613N. It's an 111 page
manual that you can receive free by writing to this address:
Consumer Information Center
P.O. Box 100
Pueblo, Colorado 81002
Make sure in your letter you put down the proper book number 613N.
This book has information on all kinds of ways to complain if you were not
properly treated by different organizations.
